Students cook up a healthy eating storm at Como
Students from Toorak Primary School recently cooked up a feast at Como Historic House and Garden as part of a National Education Week initiative designed to encourage healthy eating.

The grade 3 and 4 children explored the heritage varieties of vegetables in the garden with the help of the Trust’s resident veggie expert Dugald Noyes.
The students also cooked their own healthy lunch under the guidance of Como Chef Sara Pratt of Bursaria Café. On the menu was a herb and vegetable pie, salad with orange and rosemary dressing, a rhubarb and apple crumble washed down with homemade lemonade.
The group also set and decorated the dining tables, learning the traditional techniques of napkin folding and the gentle art of flower arranging, with Trust curator Lizzie Anya-Petrivna.
The day was kindly sponsored by Artists For Kids Culture - an organisation that works to enhance the lives of inner city children by providing financial support for artistic, educational and other recreational pursuits.
The popularity and value of the event has seen a growing number of businesses offer their assistance - such as Crown Food Services and Australian Mushroom Growers – to help Toorak Primary’s students learn the art and pleasure of cooking and eating.
